Lloyd Duong was a refugee at age 14 from Vietnam.  Resettled in Canada in early 1980, Lloyd Duong completed graduate business and legal studies at University of Ottawa (B.Com.Honours, Juris Doctor) and University of Toronto (MBA) while founding the Vietnamese University Students’ Federation of Ontario (Tổng Hội Sinh Viên Việt Nam tỉnh bang Ontario) and organizing many activities such as the VNUSFO’s summer camps and mass demonstrations in support of Vietnamese asylum-seekers.

In his off time, Lloyd Duong volunteered at refugee camp to help disqualified asylum-seekers to file appeal with the UNHCR appellate agency.  He also organized e vents to raise fund to aid natural disasters’ victims.  He created and currently heads an endeavor collecting and recording the names of Vietnamese victims who suffered directly or indirectly from the Formosa Hà Tĩnh environmental disaster in April 2016 (www.formosavictims.org).

After spending several years in private and public sectors in positions ranging from Analysts - Economic Forecast and Financial Planning to Crown Prosecutor, Lloyd Duong is presently a defense attorney.  He divides his time between legal works in Toronto and researches in Boston.

Lloyd Duong has published several works including Eastern Political Philosophies, Western Political Philosophies, The Boat People: Imprints on History which is a massive two-volume publication often cited by many researchers on the history of Vietnamese refugees.  His other published papers include Assimilation versus Integration and the Vietnamese Youth’s Identity, The Liberty-Entrenched Nationalist Flag versus the Legally-Recognized Communist Flag and the Issue of Rebuilding Vietnam, Triết Lý Quốc Trị Đông Phương, Thuyền Nhân: Ấn Tích Lịch Sử.

Vice President Liệu Hữu Lê

known affectionately as The Cowboy Poet

Graduated Magna Cum Laude from Ecole Nationale De Commerce de Saigon (Quốc Gia Thương Mãi Sài Gòn) Liệu Hữu Lê held several important positions within the government of Republic of Vietnam.  He was Commissioner of Revenue Services in Quảng Ngãi province and then Châu Đốc province.

Resettled in Houston, Texas, Liệu Hữu Lê became an active member in the Vietnamese poets’ community and currently Vice-President of the Poetic Dilettantes Club (Hội Thơ Tài Tử).

Liệu Hữu Lê was one of the main organizers of the first Vietnamese Abroad PEN Centre’s Summer Camp which was highly praised by Mayor of Houston Sylvester Turner, who proclaimed the three camp days as “Vietnamese Abroad PEN Centre Days in Houston, Texas.”

Liệu Hữu Lê is known affectionately as the Cowboy Poet by his peers and members of the Vietnamese Abroad PEN Centre.  Liệu Hữu Lê’s published works include two collections of poetry (Cây Hoa Lá Thuốc Trời, Thi tập Một Thoáng Thu Xưa) and a Music CD (CD Thơ Như Dòng Suối Ngọt).

Secretary General Anh Sơn Nguyễn

One of the youngest members of Vietnamese Abroad PEN Centre, Anh Sơn Nguyễn studied at St. Peter’s Preparatory School in Jersey City and Rutgers College of Arts & Sciences in Newark, NJ.

His family moved to Orlando, Florida, where Anh Sơn Nguyễn became active in the Vietnamese community.  He was elected Vice-President of the community in Central Florida in the past.  Beside works, Anh Sơn Nguyễn sponsors and coaches the soccer team Sài Gòn United in Orlando, Florida.

Anh Sơn Nguyễn served as Vice-President of the Vietnamese Abroad PEN Centre’s Southeast USA Chapter and an official delegate to the Vietnamese Abroad PEN Centre’s 10th Congress in Southern California in 2014.

Anh Sơn Nguyễn was one of the main organizers of the first Vietnamese Abroad PEN Centre’s Summer Camp which was highly praised by Mayor of Houston Sylvester Turner, who proclaimed the three camp days as “Vietnamese Abroad PEN Centre Days in Houston, Texas.”  Anh Sơn Nguyễn’s works include Tri Kỷ (True Friendship), Tịnh Tâm Thư (Book of Cogitation).

Treasurer Tuyết Nga Thị Nguyễn

known affectionately as Nụ cười Văn Bút (The Smile of Vietnamese Abroad PEN Centre)

Tuyết Nga Thị Nguyễn graduated from Đại Học Ngân Hàng and had more than 20 years in the banking sector.  Her love of literature rests in poetry and music.  She is a talented stage performer and media personality.

Residing in Orlando, Florida, Tuyết Nga Thị Nguyễn is involved in many aspects of cultural life in the Vietnamese community.  She often acted as MC for literary events and for many years was a radio broadcaster specialized in arts and humanities.

Tuyết Nga Thị Nguyễn served as Treasurer of the Vietnamese Abroad PEN Centre’s Southeast USA Chapter and an official delegate to the Vietnamese Abroad PEN Centre’s 10th Congress in Southern California in 2014.

Tuyết Nga Thị Nguyễn is known affectionately as Nụ cười Văn Bút (The Smile of Vietnamese Abroad PEN Centre) because she always maintains a cheerful attitude even in a challenging situation.  Tuyết Nga Thị Nguyễn’s works include Tri Kỷ (True Friendship), Tịnh Tâm Thư (Book of Cogitation).
